Sexual Assault Response Program (SARP)

Provided by: Archway Community Services

Service Description

Provides support for residents of Abbotsford or Mission age 16 or older who identify as a woman and have experienced a recent sexual assault outside the context of a long-term, intimate relationship. Offers emotional support, justice-related information, and referrals to counselling and other resources. Weekly sessions of trauma counselling and coping skills are available. Provides information, support, and education on reporting options on sexual assaults cases. Support workers provide ongoing updates on reported cases and relevant information about the court process to reduce the anxiety that clients may feel. Clients are given information about the legal process including visits with Crown Counsel, court tours and court accompaniment to preliminary hearings and trials. Also provides assistance with Crime Victim Assistance Program applications, Victim Impact Statements, and referrals to the Victim Safety Unit and community agencies. Offers third party reporting on behalf of victims age 19 or older, allowing them to anonymously report to the police. Third party reporting also connects survivors to supports, and gives them time to decide if and when they are ready to engage in the criminal justice system. Also provides public awareness and education on sexual assault and related services in the local community.
