Support Education (Special Education)

Provided by: SelfDesign Learning Foundation

Service Description

Provides equal access to opportunities for all learners, including specific supports for learners of all ages with special needs. Students, family, and specialized learning consultants collaborate to create an individual education plan in the areas of need. Also offers access to specialists who can provide services such as speech pathology and psychology. Learners can follow a modified, adapted, or combined learning program. Students who choose the Modified Program to obtain academic success use educational content and requirements outside BC curriculum requirements. They are able to obtain a School Completion (Evergreen) Certificate. Learners in the Adapted Program may work toward a BC Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma or Adult Dogwood). Learners working toward high school certification after the age of 19 can continue to receive support services while they are completing their certification. Amount of funding available for special education interventions is determined by considering each child's unique needs and reviewing recommendations.
