Service Description
Offers legal services to Indigenous people in Surrey and area who otherwise cannot access it; clients may not be eligible for legal aid or need legal advice on matters not covered by legal aid. Services include legal aid intake, advocacy for people living in poverty and those facing court proceedings, as well as the facilitation of restorative justice circles and extra-judicial sanctions. All Indigenous Peoples, regardless of whether they qualify for legal aid, can access free legal and outreach services if they are facing a criminal or child protection issues. A community outreach coordinator works with First Nations and local service providers to maintain accurate, up-to-date information on local programs and services. Also provides Indigenous adult probation supervision, and assists with reintegration services for individuals from correctional institutions. Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.
