Surrey Mobile Assault Response Team (SMART)

Provides 24/7 crisis response for individuals of any gender who have experienced a sexual assault or domestic violence to access emergency medical forensic care. Services include hospital accompaniment across the Fraser Health region, police accompaniment where resources permit, and assistance to individuals living in the Fraser Valley who may need transportation to access specialized sexual assault/forensic services. If someone has experienced an assault and goes to a hospital other than Surrey Memorial or Abbotsford, SMART will arrange transportation (if the hospital they have gone to does not) to Surrey Memorial or Abbotsford Regional where they provide forensic services. Provides outreach support to individuals who have connected with the SMART team because of a recent assault. Hours vary; full coverage on weekdays and sporadic coverage on weekends. Services are provided by a team of nurses, social workers, victim support workers, and outreach workers. Operated in partnership with Fraser Health.
