Temporary Housing Program
Offers short-stay housing for seniors ages 60 and over of all genders, who can live independently with minimum support, and are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Metro Vancouver (excluding the Downtown East-side). Provides a temporary furnished apartment for up to three months while the senior seeks housing; outreach worker is assigned to provide one-to-one support to assist the senior in obtaining appropriate permanent housing. Strict screening process applies, as apartments are unsupervised and unattended, and units are embedded within regular apartment buildings. Unable to accommodate older adults with pets at this time. A program fee is charged for the housing to cover the cost of furnishing the unit, cable, Wi-Fi and landline telephone. There is a wait list; availability is limited and need is high, so priority for available units is based on a case-by-case need. Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday, closed from 12:30 pm to 1 pm. Funded by BC Housing and Government of Canada's Reaching Home.
