Travel Assistance Program (TAP)

Provided by: Ministry of Health (MOH)

Service Description

Helps alleviate some of the transportation costs for eligible BC residents who must travel within the province for physician-referred, non-emergency medical specialist services not available in their own community. The patient's physician or nurse practitioner must complete the TAP form, and the program must be contacted to obtain a confirmation number prior to travel. This is a corporate partnership between the Ministry of Health (MOH) and private transportation carriers who agree to waive or discount regular fees. Does not provide direct financial assistance to patients for travel costs or make travel arrangements for patients. Meals, accommodation, mileage, fuel, and local transportation expenses are not included and are the responsibility of the patient. There is no reimbursement for travel already taken. The phone line to receive a TAP number is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
