Service Description

Helps British Columbians to successfully navigate BC's labour market. Through the WorkBC Employment Services (ES) Program provides support for unemployed and precariously employed British Columbians, and for people whose work is not in line with their skills, with the goal of finding sustainable employment. Services available by self-referral include skills upgrading, self-employment, and work experience programs, as well as assistance in finding a better job; the ministry provides a formal referral for case management services to clients with employment obligations. Funding streams include Skills Training for Employment (STE) for vulnerable and under-represented groups such as young adults with barriers to employment, workers impacted by mill closures and shift reductions, survivors of violence and abuse, older workers (55+), and individuals facing multiple barriers; BladeRunners Program for unemployed, at-risk youth; and the Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants Program. Employment centres and programs across BC are operated under contract to WorkBC by local agencies and businesses. Website includes a map of WorkBC Centres, database of BC job postings, career tools that bring occupations to life, a blog, and live chat for help with using the website and finding information. Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.
