Helps to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based approaches to substance use and addiction through research, education, training, and clinical care guidance. Also supports primary care clinicians and other health care providers across the province in utilizing more affective approaches to addiction and substance use screening, assessment, treatment, and management; midwives, pharmacists, nurses, nurse practitioners, and physicians can call the Addiction Medicine Clinician Support Line (778-945-7619) 24 hours a day, seven days a week for support. The Support Line is also available to any frontline care providers working in First Nations communities in BC, including Indigenous urban centres, who are caring for individuals who use substances; practitioners extend beyond clinicians and may include addiction workers, community health representatives, mental health counsellors, social workers, and NNADAP workers. Housed within Providence Health Care (PHC) and Providence Research, and is affiliated with the University of British Columbia (UBC) Faculty of Medicine.
