Comox Bay Care Society
Provides a community-funded mobile outreach health unit, providing no fee health care and social development services directly to clients on the streets of Comox Valley. Care-A-Van offers mobile health care services to homeless or at risk of homelessness, including health assessment and referrals, glucose testing and blood pressure monitoring, wound care and dressing changes, foot care, ear irrigation, assistance obtaining personal identification or social assistance, education around addictions, free medication, advocacy for methadone treatment, telephone access for appointments and services, transportation arrangement for appointments, and lending cupboard for crutches, walkers, walking casts, and canes. Other programs run out of the van include clothing, optometry services (eye exams and eye wear), dental services from September to May (dental exams and treatments), and a denture program. Audiology program provides hearing tests once monthly from 11 am to 12:30 pm in front of St. George’s United Church (505 6th Street, Courtenay). Nonprofit society, registered charity.
