Operates Cortes Health Centre which provides acute care services to assess and treat medical conditions, and stabilize for hospital transfer if required. Provides primary medical care and chronic disease management by appointment. Provides safer sex supplies, including condoms (located in washrooms). Provides opioid users with free Take Home Naloxone Kits (Narcan) that can be used to reverse the effects of overdoses from opioids like fentanyl, heroin, methadone, morphine, and oxycodone. Community paramedic carries supply of naloxone kits, and distributes during public information sessions. Offers an Equipment Loans service which provides living assistance and medical equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, bathroom aids, or hospital beds. The Travel Assistance Program helps alleviate some of the transportation costs for eligible residents who must travel within the Province for non-emergency medical specialist services not available in their own community. Available to BC residents enrolled in MSP with a referral from a physician or nurse practitioner to a specialist or for specialty services. Health Centre staff can provide the forms to eligible patients on behalf of the referring physician. Also offers a bi-monthly Foot Care Clinic; call for an appointment. Free counselling is offered every other week by the visiting mental health nurse; call for an appointment. Centre hours are 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Serves Cortes Island.
