Provides food to residents on Vancouver Island. The Food 4U Hamper program (with bread, fruit and vegetables) is available for clients on a daily basis, as well as a full hamper (including meat and dairy) www.vifoodbank.org/nanaimo-individuals for locations and times of pick-up. Offers a hamper delivery service for clients with mobility issues; there may be a waitlist for service. The Hamper 2 Your Home program is available for those who are medically housebound; form is to be completed in part by a medical professional (such as a doctor, nurse, home care worker, or social worker). Also offers a Food 4U Food Recovery Program which collects items from grocery stores, restaurants, and food wholesalers, and then distributes it within 48 hours to clients and other local community resources. Community partners such as a registered charity, food bank, school or from the Indigenous community on Vancouver Island are welcome to access food free of charge. Through the Food 4 Farmers program, farmers can collect food for animals and compost between 8:30 am to 4 pm daily. Christmas hampers are distributed in December. Empties 4 Food program collects empty beverage containers and recycles them with funds supporting internal food bank programs; large donations can be brought to the main warehouse from 8 am to 4 pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and 11:30 am to 7:30 pm Wednesdays. All clients must initially register in person with government ID for each person in the household. Thereafter, anyone can give IDs for their household to someone else who can collect food for them (photocopy of ID is OK, although pictures on phones are not accepted); person who is collecting on someone's behalf must show their ID as well. Office hours are 10 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday; hours change in December. Nonprofit society, registered charity.
