National Zakat Foundation
Collects and distributes zakat funds (an annual tax on Muslims to aid the poor in the Muslim community) and voluntary donations collected in Canada to eligible recipients in the local Muslim community. Supports individuals going through a difficult time in their life, such as new converts to Islam, widows, orphans, refugees, the elderly, and the homeless. Eligible recipients are assessed by caseworkers and evaluated to receive support through zakat distribution, referrals to job agencies, counsellors, or social services. Eligible candidates can apply online. Nonprofit society, registered charity.
