South Granville Seniors Centre
A community centre that provides programs and services to promote health, well-being, social connect, and independent living for adults ages 55 and over. Offers a mix of free and low-cost programs and services. Offers information, support, and referrals in English and Spanish, to help seniors navigate housing concerns, government benefits, taxes, disability supports, and connect with appropriate authorities or community resources as needed. Staff can assist with completing government forms. Appointment required for one-on-one assistance. Trained volunteers provide weekly friendly phone calls to isolated and house-bound seniors. Hot lunch offered at 12 noon Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and at 1 pm Wednesdays (reservations required, fees charged). Health care programs include hand and foot care by licensed practical nurse and certified foot care nurse, massage therapy, and hair care; registration required, and fees charged at subsidized rates. Offers variety of recreation, fitness, and social programs; registration required, fees charged; see website for specific program offerings. Tablet lending library loans out tablets free of charge to low-incomes seniors who currently have no devices to access the internet and volunteer mentor support to learn to use the device; refundable deposit required. Some programs offered in Spanish. An annual membership of $25 provides a discount for most services. Serves Granville/Fairview neighbourhood of Vancouver and surrounding area. Centre hours are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Nonprofit society.
