Squamish Helping Hands Society

Provides shelter, supportive housing, food services, and support to people at-risk to improve individual wellness and the capacity for independence. Offers low-barrier, non-judgmental, trauma-informed services to adults coping with challenges including low income, mental illness, substance use, health issues, and other barriers. Also offers social and recreational programming through participation in community events, community clean ups, as well as a garden program. Serves the Sea to Sky communities. Funded in part by BC Housing. Nonprofit society, registered charity.

Overdose prevention site provides a place where people who use drugs can be safely monitored and treated immediately if they overdose.

Overdose prevention site provides a place where people who use drugs can be safely monitored and treated immediately if they overdose. Provides harm reduction supplies, along with harm reduction education and referrals to health services, addictions services, and other social supports. Provides safer drug use supplies such as pipe mouthpiece and screens, as well as injection supplies. Also provides safer sex supplies, including condoms. Offers confidential testing of substances to detect contaminants such as fentanyl; call to confirm service availability. Provides opioid users with free take home naloxone (Narcan) kits that can be used to reverse the effects of overdoses from opioids like fentanyl, heroin, methadone, morphine, and oxycodone; training can be provided. Hours are 12 noon to 10 pm daily. Serves Squamish.

Provides year-round emergency shelter in beds for 16 adults of all genders ages 19 and over who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Provides year-round emergency shelter in beds for 16 adults of all genders ages 19 and over who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week; intake is 24/7 as long as the shelter is not full. When available can offer one locker per person during shelter stay. Maximum stay is 30 days. Low-barrier shelter; drug or alcohol use within shelter or drop-in is not tolerated. Wheelchair accessible. Pets are not permitted in the shelter. During Extreme Weather Response (EWR) alerts, provides 15 additional overflow mats.

Drop-in is open 24 hours a day, seven days week. Also provides snacks and meals to go upon request. The Food Market, operated by Squamish Food Bank Society, is a grocery-store-style food bank; hours are 12 noon to 3 pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 3 pm to 5:30 pm Thursdays, and 11:30 am to 1 pm Saturdays. Food hampers are available for those unable to access the market.
