The 127 Society for Housing

Provides safe, affordable homes for people in Vancouver; target group is for low-income individuals age 45 and older, those paying over 30% of income for rent and in substandard housing, and those on social assistance, pensions, or low incomes; priority is for current residents of downtown south area. Prospective tenants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, currently living in Vancouver metro area, and meet income requirements (maximum annual income is $71,100 for a studio apartment and $120,000 for a one-bedroom or combined income of couples). Community workers in each building encourage interaction, are aware of tenant challenges, and can act as advocates for tenants with service providers to secure necessary supports. An application can be mailed or individuals can apply in person from 10 am to 12 noon on the second Wednesday of every month, except December at the new Jubilee House in the community room at 1099 Richards Street; staff help applicants complete forms which are added to the waiting list. Office hours are 8 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Nonprofit society, registered charity.
