Together Against Poverty Society (TAPS)

Provides free, in-person legal advocacy and representation for people who are dealing with provincial disability benefit (PWD) applications and appeals, income assistance (welfare) file reviews, reconsiderations, or appeals, and residential tenancy disputes. Also provides income tax preparation assistance for low-income earners. Offers legal education and training through seminars, as well as a newsletter. Serves Great Victoria, Western Communities, Sooke, and the Southern Gulf Islands (Central Saanich, Colwood, Esquimalt, Highlands, Metchosin, North Saanich, Oak Bay, Saanich, Saanichton, Sidney, Sooke, Victoria, and View Royal, Gabriola Island, Galiano Island, Kuper Island, Mayne Island, Pender Island, Saltspring Island, Saturna Island, and Thetis Island). Office locations in Nanaimo and Victoria. Victoria office hours are 9 am to 12 noon, and 1 pm to 4 pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays; and by phone only (closed to walk-ins) 9 am to noon, and 1 pm to 4 pm Wednesdays.
