Ama Transitional Housing for Women Who are Older

Service Description

A first-stage, six-bed specialized transition house that provides a safe space for women 55 years of age and older (including self-identified women) without children, who are impacted by violence and/or are at risk of abuse, threats, violence, or homelessness. Length of stay ranges from 30 to 180 days, with the first 30 days being free. Provides accompaniment, activity groups, advocacy, a community kitchen, emotional support, group support, and information and referrals. Accepts refugees, refugee claimants, and women from out of the province. Women are not required to be abstinent, but must not use alcohol and/or drugs on site; accepts women on methadone. Staff can assist residents in obtaining identification. Women must be able to live communally. Walker- and small wheelchair-friendly. Accepts pets but no vicious dogs permitted; pet can stay with owner in her room. Funded by BC Housing.
