Administers and enforces regulations of municipal Animal Control Bylaws in Central Saanich, Colwood, Highlands, Juan de Fuca Electoral Area, Langford, Metchosin, North Saanich, Paquachin First Nation, Saanich, Sooke, Salt Spring Island, Sidney, Songhees First Nation, Southern Gulf Islands, Tsartlip First Nation, Tsawout First Nation, and View Royal. Issues include barking and noisy dogs, loose and unleashed dogs, lost dogs, neglected or stray dogs, injured dogs, impounded dogs, biting or dangerous dogs, and dogs kept outside without appropriate shelter. Also handles dog licencing and cat identification tags for Colwood, Highlands, Langford, Metchosin, Sooke, View Royal, Juan de Fuca Electoral Area, Southern Gulf Islands, Salt Spring Island, and Songhees First Nation. Operates an animal shelter (5401 Pat Bay Highway, Victoria). Shelter hours are 9:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Saturday; viewing times are 1 pm to 4 pm Monday to Saturday. Bylaw and Animal Care Services office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.
