Better at Home - Mission
Assists seniors age 55 and over who are in general good health, but require help with daily tasks to maintain independent living within their own (or rented) homes and stay connected to their communities. Services include light housekeeping, grocery shopping, friendly visits, transportation to medical appointments, and wellness check calls. Fees are based on income and calculated on a sliding scale. Serves Mission. Office hours are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday. Funded by Ministry of Health (MOH) and managed by United Way British Columbia (UWBC).
Provides transportation for medical appointments to seniors ages 55 and over living in Mission. The service area covers part of the Fraser Valley and the Greater Vancouver Regional district including Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Mission; Langley and Surrey; Burnaby and New Westminster, Maple Ridge and Coquitlam; and North Vancouver. Transportation can either be basic pick-up and drop-off or with accompaniment. Services include support for clients with dementia, space for a personal attendant, and help with vehicle entry/exit. Can accommodate walkers and may accommodate wheelchairs depending on the vehicle. Service is from 6 am to 9 pm Monday to Friday. Booking must be made at least 48 to 72 hours in advance for local trips and a week in advance for non-local trips. Hours to book a trip are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday. Booking of regular trips is permitted. 24 hours notice is required to cancel trip. Pre-registration is required and completed during the intake process. Fees are based on income and calculated on a sliding scale. There is an additional cost for parking. Clients are invoiced for applicable fees. Transportation provided by volunteer drivers.
