Better at Home - Tri-Cities

Service Description

Assists seniors who are in general good health, but require help with daily tasks to maintain their independence and stay connected with their community. Services include grocery shopping, friendly visiting, light housekeeping, and transportation to medical appointments (details below). Individuals must be age 65 and over, living in their own home, and a resident of the Tri-Cities (Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody) as well as Anmore and Belcarra. Pre-registration is required, and fees are on a sliding scale based on the senior's household income. Program and office hours are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday. Funded by Ministry of Health (MOH) and managed by United Way British Columbia.

Provides transportation for seniors age 65 and over living in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody. Service is available across Metro Vancouver for medical appointments, and within the Tri-Cities only for non-medical appointments. Occasional bus trips with designated pick-up and drop-off points are also offered. Services include help with vehicle entry/exit, and space for a personal attendant. Can accommodate folding walkers and service animals. Service hours are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday. Occasional bus trips with designated pick-up and drop-off points are also offered. Pre-registration and proof of income are required; call for intake appointment. Booking is required five days before trip; booking may be requested anytime (leave a message after-hours). Booking of regular trips is permitted. 24 hours notice is required to cancel a trip. Proof of income is required. Cost to client depends on household income, with sliding scale and subsidy available; clients are invoiced. Transportation is provided by volunteer drivers. Attempts to match seniors with a volunteer driver who speaks the same language. Office hours are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday.
