Central Okanagan Rent Bank
Housing stabilization program for low-income residents age 19 and over in Central Okanagan (Kelowna, West Kelowna, Lake Country and Peachland). Offers interest-free, repayable loans to eligible renters of Central Okanagan who are at risk of being evicted, or those who cannot secure rental accommodation due to short-term financial difficulties. Loan funds can be used for rental arrears, next/first month's rent, security/pet/damage deposits on rental accommodation, or essential utilities (gas, electricity) arrears. If approved, loan funds are paid by cheque issued to the landlord or utility company. Funds are not paid directly to the applicant. Maximum loan amount is $1,500 per individual or family towards rent or rent deposits. Loans are repaid in monthly installments and repayment periods range between six months and 24 months. Applicants may complete a pre-assessment form available online or may contact the Rent Bank directly via email to start the application process. Applicants must have a current bank account; have proof of a regular source of verifiable income which is sufficient to cover usual rent/living expenses; demonstrate the household is within income requirements; not be more than two months in arrears; be a Canadian Citizen, Landed Immigrant, or Permanent Resident; have no undischarged bankruptcy; not be able to access any other forms of financial assistance; have two pieces of valid ID, one of which must be government-issued photo ID; demonstrate that the loan will stabilize their housing situation for 90 plus days. Office hours are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Funded in part by the Province of BC through BC Rent Bank.
