Co-Response Team (CRT)
Responds to calls that come through 911 to the Victoria Police Department that involve a significant mental health or substance use component. CRT may also respond to calls that are received through the police non-emergency line if there is a recognized mental health component. Pairs a registered mental health clinician with a police officer trained in trauma-informed approaches and de-escalation to respond to individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis. The team assesses and manages the situation and decides on the most appropriate action, which may include referral to community-based mental health follow-up or emergency intervention. Offered in partnership with Island Health. Serves Esquimalt and Victoria. Hours are 8 am to 7 pm, seven days a week.
