Community Based Victim Services: Legal Aid and Liaisons

Provides assistance to victims of spousal assault, sexual assault, or stalking; adult survivors of sexual or physical abuse; and children and youth who have experienced sexual or physical abuse. Services include emotional support, assistance through the criminal justice process, court orientation, information and referral, accompaniment (court, hospital, police), form completion assistance, and information and referral regarding community resources. Offers third party reporting to adult victims of sexual assault; staff report the assault to police on behalf of the victim who remains anonymous. Also refers and assists individuals to access Legal Services Society (LSS) representation or brief advice services (for instance duty counsel, Family LawLINE). Office hours are 9 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. Serves Greater Trail, including Trail, Rossland, Fruitvale, Montrose, Warfield, and Genelle. Funded by Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General (MPSSG).
