Community Connections - Penticton
Provides immigrants, refugees, refugee claimants, and foreign workers the opportunity to improve language skills, prepare for English Test for Immigration and Employment, connect with industry specific career mentors, and helps to build connections in the community through volunteer mentors; newcomers are matched with mentors based on criteria such as similar interests, age, professional background, and occupation. Mentors support and encourage mentees in their goals, connect them to established Canadians, and share information on Canadian workplace culture and occupational practices as well as local job market and networking opportunities, role of public institutions and community resources, and local culture and values. Services are available in Punjabi, Bengali, Tagalog, Hindi, and Urdu; services may also be available in Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, French, and Spanish depending on staff availability. Office hours are 9 am to 6 pm Monday to Wednesday, 9 am to 7 pm Thursdays, 9 am to 5 pm Fridays, and 9 am to 1 pm Saturdays.
