Forensic Nursing

Offers free, confidential health care to individuals of all ages and genders who have experienced intentional violence, including elder abuse, family violence, intimate partner violence or sexual assault within the last seven days. Services include compassionate and culturally sensitive care, unbiased assistance helping patients make informed decisions about their health care, examination and treatment for sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy, collection of forensic samples (with consent), liaison with the legal system (with consent), and referrals for follow-up care. Accessed through the emergency department; individuals may present to the emergency room at any Fraser Health hospital and request a referral to the forensic nurse examiner. Forensic nurse examiners work in the emergency departments at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Surrey Memorial Hospital; individuals wanting to see the forensic nurse examiner may need to be transferred if they are at another hospital in the Fraser Health region. Emergency department locations can be found on the Fraser Health website. Service is offered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through emergency departments.
