Forensic Nursing Service - Embrace Clinic

Service Description
Outpatient clinic provides confidential trauma-informed, short-term specialty medical care to mature minors and adults of any gender who are survivors of recent violence, including sexual assault, partner violence, or family violence. Services include medical care, assessment, and follow-up of injuries, screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, rapid HIV testing, pregnancy testing with unbiased options counselling, emergency contraception including IUD insertions, and mental health support. Does not provide counselling or crisis services. Limited forensic examinations available. Provides referrals to appropriate community resources. Accepts self-referrals; an appointment is required, with same day and next day appointments often available. Also hosts the Strangulation Clinic for all genders age 13 and older who have experienced recent strangulation during interpersonal violence. Services include non-emergency outpatient focused medical assessment and treatment, and focused forensic exam. If strangulation occurred less than seven days ago, consider medical and forensic assessment by the Forensic Nursing Service at Surrey Memorial Hospital ER or Abbotsford Regional Hospital ER; or referral by self or providers if person is medically stable. Office hours are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday.
