Ishtar Transition House

Service Description

Provides safe, secure, temporary shelter and support for women (including transgender women) with or without children, who are leaving violent relationships or are at-risk of abuse, threats, or violence. Accepts male children up to and including age 19; adult male children with disabilities and who are dependents are allowed. Also accepts women who have been victims of human trafficking, refugees and refugee claimants, as well as women from out of province. Length of stay is 30 days. Low-barrier house; no substance use on premises. Gives women a safe and supportive living environment with access to daily living requirements such as clothing, toiletries, and nutritious meals. Also provides transportation, accompaniment, and advocacy support, as well as assists clients in accessing financial assistance, legal aid, and affordable housing. Offers resource information to enable women to explore their options and define their goals as well as assist with the development of safety plans. Personal identification (ID) is not required. Wheelchair accessible. Cannot accommodate pets, but will arrange for temporary accommodation with community partner or sister house. Funded by BC Housing.
