Kwunatsustul (Holding Hands, Standing Together) Second Stage Program: Trauma

Five-week residential, co-ed, intensive trauma program designed to address mental health and trauma issues being faced by First Nations communities. Uses traditional and contemporary methodologies to address emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual health and well-being issues that stem from residential school experience, past substance use, violence (domestic or physical), unresolved grief, and intergenerational issues. Referrals are accepted from a substance use treatment counsellor, a band social worker, a clinical counsellor, a therapist, or a psychologist. Program applicants must meet basic criteria, including being in recovery by attending support group meetings, a minimum of six months sobriety, and seeing a counsellor/therapist on a regular basis who can provide aftercare upon program completion. Other second-stage recovery programs available are Honouring Your Grief, Elders and Colleagues, and All My Relationships. Healing is restored through ceremony and prayer where Elders share brushing and cleansing ceremonies. Office hours are 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Funded by First Nations Health Authority.
