Language Instruction for Newcomers (LINC) - Penticton
Provides free English classes for adult newcomers to Canada who are permanent residents or refugees, as well as refugee claimants or temporary foreign workers. Focus is on topics such as housing, banking, transportation, and community resources that are important for everyday functioning in Canada. Language levels includes beginner's (levels 1 to 3), intermediate (levels 4 to 5), and advanced (levels 6-8). Also assesses prospective students for eligibility and training level. Free child care is available for children from one month of age to five years of age. Serves Cawston, Hedley, Kaleden, Keremeos, Naramata, Okanagan Falls, Penticton, Princeton, and Summerland; videoconferencing is available for communities outside of Penticton. Services are available in Punjabi, Bengali, Tagalog, Hindi, and Urdu; services may also be available in Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, French, and Spanish depending on staff availability. Office hours are 9 am to 6 pm Monday to Wednesday, 9 am to 7 pm Thursdays, 9 am to 5 pm Fridays, and 9 am to 1 pm Saturdays. Funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Competitiveness.
