Service Description

The Family Support Services Team provides individual support and guidance for family, friends, and natural supports of an adult person living with a mental illness and/or substance use issue. The team is comprised of peer family support workers, clinical counsellors, and a program coordinator. Services for families and professionals include: system navigation and consultation (including help understanding and working with the two policies Sharing of Information and Natural Supports Inclusion and Support); help finding the proper resources; coaching/brief counselling; support groups; education events; skill development groups such as Observing Our Limits and Family Connections (a program to help family members learn to respectfully communicate with a loved one with emotional dysregulation); and a Wellness Planning Service that assists families and friends to make a self-care action plan to help them in their caregiving/supporting roles.
