New Way Recovery Home for Women
Registered second-stage support recovery program assists self-identified women ages 19 and up who are seeking to strengthen the foundations of their recovery after completing a first stage and/or a treatment program, and who are in preparation to transition into independent housing. Alternative 12-step program that is women focused, holistic and client-centered with a trauma-informed responsive approach. Women are expected to participate in all programming which includes weekly in-house process groups, one-on-one addictions counselling sessions, personal development/wellness programs, self-help meetings (online), any other self-identified personal recovery plan activities, and shared chores and meal preparation. Professional development such as pre-employment, continuing education, career exploration and/or part time employment is explored; however, personal development is priority, and the latter cannot interfere with the fundamentals of the program. Entry requires a minimum of 90 days abstinence, completion of a licensed first-stage recovery and/or a treatment program and demonstration of emotional readiness for semi-independent communal living. Accepts clients on substitution therapy including Kadian and benzodiazepines (clients must be tapering the dose). Program length depends on the individual, and can be up to 18 months. Referrals are accepted from self, addictions counsellors, other addiction service providers, or any other professional (doctor, therapist, and social worker), in collaboration with client. Women can add their name to the waitlist after 30 days, in preparation for after-care plan for when they complete a first stage and/or a treatment program. Women are required to check in weekly with the intake worker to maintain their spot on the waitlist, names are removed after one month of no contact. Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction client fees are paid for by the Ministry; self-pay rates are on a sliding scale based on income up to $3400 per month. Housing subsidies may be available for clients who are transitional support recovery program graduates.
