SAHARA Employment Program for Men
Assists racialized men with multiple barriers to re-enter the labour market. Barriers may include health, anxiety, depression, or addiction; a criminal record; or a lack of basic education and skills. Focus is on landscaping, production, and manufacturing industries. Services take a harm reduction approach and include paid occupational skills training, paid work experience, life skills and counselling workshops, one-on-one and group sessions, mentoring, and job shadowing. Eligible participants must be unemployed or underemployed, Canadian citizens or permanent residents, and have multiple barriers such as less than a grade 12 education; health, mental health or addiction issues; a criminal record; or lacking basic skills for employment. Offered in English, with language support in Punjabi and Spanish. Funded by Government of Canada through the Canada-British Columbia Workforce Development Agreement.
