Shimai Transition House for Women

Provides a 10-space, specialized, low-barrier transitional housing program designed for self-identified women who are fleeing violence and seeking support to reduce or eliminate substance use. Services include accompaniment, advocacy, access to a drug and alcohol counsellor, emotional support, group support, and information and referral. Length of stay ranges from 30 to 180 days. Women are not required to be abstinent, but no alcohol use permitted on site; designated drug use area outside. Women on methadone welcome and staff will dispense carries. Personal identification (ID) not required; transgender women whose ID has not been updated will still be accepted. No pets allowed. Not wheelchair accessible. Also operates as an extreme weather response shelter for women when weather is extreme between November and April. Funded by BC Housing.
