Investigates offenses involving vulnerable persons, including high-risk domestic violence situations, elder abuse, sexual assaults and missing persons. For situations involving domestic violence, elder abuse and sexual assault, victim support services are also available. Detectives are paired with community counsellors to assist the individual from the time of reporting to the end of the criminal process and beyond if required. The unit offers trauma-informed approach with heightened police awareness and response, safety planning, coordination with community partners, and confidentiality with outreach workers. All inquiries should be reported through the non-emergency or emergency lines for immediate response and the Specialized Investigations unit can be involved in a follow-up capacity. Office hours are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday.
