United Way BC Healthy Aging

Administers grants and manages programs that help independent seniors live at home and stay active in their communities. There are eight funding streams, with a BC-wide network of community-based service agencies delivering the programs locally in their community. Better at Home programs help seniors with non-medical, day-to-day tasks such as grocery chopping and light housekeeping, so that they can continue to live independently in their own homes; see independent listing. Family and Friend Caregiver Supports programs offer information and education resources along with other supports that help build the skills and confidence of family members and friends who assist and care for the seniors in their lives; supported by Family Caregivers of BC. Aging in Motion (AIM) funding empowers older adults to live independently and stay connected to their communities by providing essential transportation services. Social Meals funding provides drop-in lunches or in-home meals with volunteers. Volunteer Coordination and Support funding supports the creation of roles focused on strengthening local volunteer engagement through recruitment and retention efforts. Social Prescribing programs feature coordinators that work with individuals referred by physicians or other health care practitioners, connecting them to local, non-clinical services available through community agencies. Therapeutic Activation Programs for Seniors (TAPS) programs bring seniors together for group activities such as light exercise, shared learning opportunities, and a meal with conversation. Healthy Aging portfolio funded by Ministry of Health (MOH). Serves BC.
