Vancouver Rent Bank

Aims to increase housing stability by providing short term, interest-free loans to people at risk of eviction, or essential utility cut-off due to temporary financial crisis. Loans may be used for security deposits, rent (no more than two months of rental arrears), and essential utilities such as hydro and gas. Maximum loan amount can be up to $1800 for a single person, and $2500 for a family. Repayment period is between 12 and 36 months, and payments are made through automatic withdrawal. Applicants must be aged 19 and over, a resident of the City of Vancouver, have a steady source of income (can be income assistance), qualify as low income, and have an existing bank account, and not be in the process of bankruptcy. Applicants must provide proof of income, statements of expenses, two pieces of valid identification, and proof of tenancy. Also offers tools to better manage limited financial resources. If loan is approved, funds are paid directly to the landlord. Serves Vancouver. An application form is available online, or individuals can drop-in from 10 am to 1 pm Thursdays. Once an application is received, individuals will be contacted with a list of required documents to send.
