Records and issues certificates for births, adoptions, deaths, marriages, and divorces that occur in BC. Issues marriage licenses and has marriage commissioners who perform civil marriages at the couple's choice of location. Registers and searches wills. Provides change of name services and can change gender markers on birth certificates. Residential school survivors, their families, and those impacted by the Sixties Scoop may change their name to reclaim their Indigenous name at no cost; names may include Indigenous language characters.
