Wilma's Transition House

Provides safe, secure, temporary shelter and support for women with or without children, who are fleeing violent relationships or who are at risk of abuse, threats, or violence. Accepts male children ages 15 and younger; older males are considered on a case-by-case basis. Accepts refugees, refugee claimants, and women from out the province. Accepts transgender women if they present and identify as a woman legally. Accepts non-binary persons on a case-by-case basis. Length of stay is 30 days. High-barrier house; zero tolerance for substance use on or off-site, and adherence to curfew. Gives women a safe and supportive living environment with access to daily living requirements such as clothing, toiletries, and nutritious meals. Also provides individual and group support, transportation for service-related appointments, court accompaniment, and advocacy support, as well as assists clients in accessing financial assistance, legal aid, and affordable housing. Offers resource information to enable women to explore their options and define their goals as well as assist with the development of safety plans. Personal identification (ID) is not required. Wheelchair accessible. Can accommodate pets (there is a designated room to shelter animals); dogs are accepted on a case-by-case basis. House is located in the Chilliwack community; available on a first-come, first-served basis. Also provides shelter to women who are in crisis and who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Funded by Aboriginal Housing Management Association (AHMA), BC Housing, and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC).
