Women's 24-Hour Emergency Shelter

Provides year-round, low-barrier, 24-hour emergency shelter in shared rooms for 57 homeless women (inclusive of cisgender and transgender women), non-binary, and Two-Spirit people in the Downtown Eastside. Services include snacks, meals, showers, laundry facilities, personal hygiene products, first aid, and access to local calling. Also provides access to housing workers, peer navigators, and sexual assault response coordinators. Health-related services include access to bed rest except during room cleaning from 3 pm to 5 pm. Breakfast is served at 8 am, lunch at 12:30 pm, and dinner at 6 pm. First half hour of all meals is for shelter clients only, then additional community members are welcome. Snack is served at 9 pm; open to all women in the community while supplies last. Tea and coffee are served around the clock. Pets are allowed as long as they are leashed/caged and always with the owner. Lockers available. All guests must be wholly independent. Bed checks take place every four hours; women need to be present at 6 am, 10 am, 2 pm, 6 pm, 10 pm, and 2 am to keep their bed. Empty beds will be re-assigned to the next client on the waitlist. Women need to come in person to be added to the waitlist. Wheelchair accessible. Funded by BC Housing.
