  Provides food to those who need it while fostering social connections, sustainability and good health in our community.

  Provides food to those who need it while fostering social connections, sustainability and good health in our community. Food Bank Grocery Program provides food to those in need; registration required. Pick-up hours are 10 am to 2 pm Tuesdays and 3 pm to 7 pm Thursdays; delivery may be available for clients with barriers to picking up. Soup Socials provide free or by-donation meals while fostering social connection and strengthening relationships amongst the community; see website for schedule. The Food Recovery program collects food products from a local grocer for redistribution. The Farmer's Market Coupon program provides low-income seniors and families with coupons that they can redeem on select items from farmers at the local market. The Community Garden program grows food for the school and community. The Community Kitchen Workshops build food skills for cooking and eating healthier, while strengthening social connections and overall community wellness. Also offers hot lunches, breakfast programs, and a school garden program at local elementary schools.

  Connects older adults age 55 or over living on Gabriola Island to non-clinical services to help improve their health and wellness, and diminish the negative health effects associated with social isolation and loneliness.

  Connects older adults age 55 or over living on Gabriola Island to non-clinical services to help improve their health and wellness, and diminish the negative health effects associated with social isolation and loneliness. The seniors' navigator offers support in accessing appropriate local resources, including systems navigation and information about social and recreational programs, healthy nutrition, and support for ageing in place. Self-referrals are welcome, as well as referrals from physicians, health practitioners, support workers, and community members. Funded by Ministry of Health (MOH) and managed by United Way BC.

  Community volunteers provide compassionate volunteer home support through the Home Hospice Program to those who are experiencing end of life, as well as visits through the Community Visitor Program for people who need support to remain in their homes as long as they are able.

  Community volunteers provide compassionate volunteer home support through the Home Hospice Program to those who are experiencing end of life, as well as visits through the Community Visitor Program for people who need support to remain in their homes as long as they are able. Caregiver Support Group is a bi-weekly group for those who provide unpaid care and support to family and friends who are elderly, in poor health, or have a disability or other age-related challenges. Bi-weekly Companions in Grief Group is a support group for those experiencing the grief of the death of family or friends. The Taxi Saver Program offers taxi saver coupons for 50% discounted taxi travel for seniors and those with disabilities; can be purchased from the PHC office with cash from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm Monday to Thursday. Offered in partnership with the Regional District of Nanaimo.
