50 Plus Safe Home

Provides support and short-term emergency space for women (cisgender and transgender) as well as Two-Spirit, and non-binary individuals ages 50 and older who are leaving violent relationships or are at risk of abuse, threats, or violence. Gives women a safe and supportive environment with access to daily living requirements such as clothing, toiletries, and nutritious meals. Accepts refugees, refugee claimants, and women from out of the province. Length of stay is typically between 7 and 10 days but can be extended for a limited period based on extenuating circumstances. Personal identification (ID) is not required; will support women to obtain ID. A referral is required from the VWTH Society's Emergency Transition House. Wheelchair accessible. May be able to accommodate pets based on unit availability, but will arrange for fostering at the local SPCA where possible. House is located in Victoria; available on a first-come, first-served basis. Also provides support and advocacy services; individual support and support groups. Funded by BC Housing.
