Better at Home - Bowen Island

Service Description

Assists Bowen Island seniors age 65 and over who are in general good health or between the ages of 55 to 64 and on disability assistance, but require help with non-medical daily tasks to maintain independent living within their homes and remain connected to their communities. Services include light housekeeping, grocery shopping assistance, friendly visits, minor home repairs, light yard work, and transportation services. Fees are charged for some services on a sliding scale (based on income). Office hours are 9 am to 12 noon Monday to Friday; service hours vary. Funded by Ministry of Health (MOH) and managed by United Way British Columbia (UWBC).

Provides transportation for medical appointments to seniors age 65 and over, and to individuals ages 55 to 64 who receive government disability assistance. Individuals must be residents of Bowen Island. Services include accompaniment if requested and space for a personal attendant. May accommodate walkers and service animals depending on the vehicle. Service days are Sunday to Saturday. Transportation is offered with a volunteer-driven car, with designated pick-up and drop-off points/accompaniment. Booking is required; service is dependent on volunteer availability. Fee for client is on a sliding scale based on income, with subsidy available; clients are invoiced. A waitlist is maintained. Office hours are 9 am to 12 noon Monday to Friday.
