  Assists Bowen Island seniors age 65 and over who are in general good health or between the ages of 55 to 64 and on disability assistance, but require help with non-medical daily tasks to maintain independent living within their homes and remain connected to their communities.

  Assists Bowen Island seniors age 65 and over who are in general good health or between the ages of 55 to 64 and on disability assistance, but require help with non-medical daily tasks to maintain independent living within their homes and remain connected to their communities. Services include light housekeeping, grocery shopping assistance, friendly visits, minor home repairs, light yard work, and transportation services. Fees are charged for some services on a sliding scale (based on income). An intake interview and registration are required (https://seniors.nscr.ca/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2023/06/Intake-Form-North-Shore-Better-at-Home-April-2023-2.pdf). Office hours are 9 am to 12 noon Monday to Friday; service hours vary. Funded by Ministry of Health (MOH) and managed by United Way British Columbia (UWBC).
  
  Provides transportation for medical appointments to seniors age 65 and over, and to individuals ages 55 to 64 who receive government disability assistance. Individuals must be residents of Bowen Island. Services include accompaniment if requested and space for a personal attendant. May accommodate walkers and service animals depending on the vehicle. Service days are Sunday to Saturday. Transportation is offered with a volunteer-driven car, with designated pick-up and drop-off points/accompaniment. Booking is required; service is dependent on volunteer availability. Membership is required with an intake form (https://seniors.nscr.ca/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2023/06/Intake-Form-North-Shore-Better-at-Home-April-2023-2.pdf). Fee for client is on a sliding scale based on income, with subsidy available; clients are invoiced. A waitlist is maintained. Office hours are 9 am to 12 noon Monday to Friday.

  Assists eligible lower-income individuals in completing and filing their income tax returns. Taxes are prepared by qualified volunteers registered with the Canada Revenue Agency. For North Shore residents only (Bowen Island, Lions Bay, North Vancouver, and West Vancouver). This service is available during March and April each year, but it books up very quickly so call early to register, or for information and eligibility. It is possible to receive this service outside of tax season, but service is limited; call the general office number for service.

  Provides information and referral about resources and services available to North Shore residents. Service is available by phone, email, or in-person. Inter-Agency is a network connecting non-profits, charitable organizations, and other information/resource-based community hubs together with the goal of filling gaps in service and providing central communication between local community agencies. To share with the network or receive network notices, submit a request through the website form (community.nscr.ca/inter-agency). This service is open to North Shore service providers. The North Shore Housing List is a weekly compilation of the lowest end of the rental market's housing available on the North Shore. THe list is sent weekly and is available to social service agencies, individuals, and families upon sign up (community.nscr.ca/north-shore-housing-list). Office hours are 9 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.

  Promote and assists prolonged independence and overall wellness of older adults living on the North Shore by providing non-medical community connection and support, using the principles of social prescribing. Areas of support include financial benefits, housing applications and information, food, health service navigation, and social, recreational, and educational programming. The scope of the program includes supportive advocacy, coaching, resource referrals, community connectivity suggestions, and encouragement. The connector co-develops a plan with the older adult and provides resources and connections, as well as critical support and follow-up, to promote independence. Funded by Ministry of Health (MOH) and managed by United Way BC.
