Better at Home - North Shore

Assists North Shore (North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and Bowen Island) seniors age 65 and over who are in general good health, or between the ages of 55 to 64 and on disability assistance but require help with non-medical daily tasks, to maintain independent living within their homes and remain connected to their communities.

Assists North Shore (North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and Bowen Island) seniors age 65 and over who are in general good health, or between the ages of 55 to 64 and on disability assistance but require help with non-medical daily tasks, to maintain independent living within their homes and remain connected to their communities. Services include light housekeeping, grocery delivery, friendly visits, minor home repairs, light yard work, and transportation to medical appointments. Fees are charged for most services on a sliding scale (based on income). Intake forms are available on the website. An intake interview and home visit are required. Eligible residents may be placed on a waitlist depending on the service requested and the availability of volunteers. Office hours are 9 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday; service hours vary. Assists eligible lower-income individuals in completing and filing their income tax returns. Taxes are prepared by qualified volunteers registered with the Canada Revenue Agency. For North Shore residents only (Bowen Island, Lions Bay, North Vancouver, and West Vancouver). This service is available during March and April each year, but it books up very quickly so call early to register, or for information and eligibility. It is possible to receive this service outside of tax season, but service is limited; call the general office number for service.

The connector co-develops a plan with the older adult and provides resources and connections, as well as critical support and follow-up, to promote independence. Funded by Ministry of Health (MOH) and managed by United Way BC.
