Civil Resolution Tribunal (CRT)

Online tribunal offers timely, accessible, affordable way to resolve many types of civil law disputes without needing a lawyer or attending court. Handles disputes about incorporated BC societies, and housing and community service cooperative associations. Resolve strata property disputes of any amount, small claims disputes up to $5,000, and motor vehicle accident and injury claims of up to $50,000. Addresses disputes between owners of strata properties and strata corporations, for matters including non-payment of fines or fees, financial responsibility for repairs, meetings and voting, and bylaws, legislation, and regulations. Also addresses small claims issues related to buying and selling goods and services, loans and debts, construction and renovations, employment, insurance, personal injury, and property. Provides legal information, self-help tools, and dispute resolution services. If the people involved in the dispute cannot agree on a resolution, an independent CRT member will decide on an outcome, which can be enforced like a court order. Services are provided for a fee. Online services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week; email contact is through an online form. Phone calls are returned within three business days. Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.
