Courtenay Family Justice Centre

Provides services to people dealing with issues related to separation or divorce, including parenting arrangements; guardianship; child and spousal support; contact with a child; and property division respecting a companion animal (pet); parenting after separation; resolving family disputes (including court and non-court processes); and protection orders for family violence. All services are confidential and provided free of charge to parents and other family members. Staff can help assess needs and provide information about legal and related issues (including referrals for legal advice); dispute resolution and mediation options (including court forms and processes); referrals to community resources and agencies. All Centres have Family Justice Counsellors (accredited mediators) who can provide a full range of services virtually through video conferencing and telephone, if required. Help is available in person, or by phone or video, so families can receive service even if there isn't a Family Justice Centre nearby. Families can get help from Family Justice Centres even if they are not going to court. However, Family Justice Centres do provide services that are part of the Provincial Court process. In Provincial Court Early Resolution Registries, there are Early Resolution Requirements for families who want to resolve a family law matter. The Courtenay Family Justice Centre provides Early Resolution Registry services for these Provincial Family Court registries: Ahousaht Provincial Court registry, Courtenay Provincial Court registry, Gold River Provincial Court registry, Port Alberni Provincial Court registry, Port Hardy Provincial Court registry, Tofino Provincial Court registry, and Ucluelet Provincial Court registry; see the Early Resolution Registries, filing locations and Family Justice Services Division (FJSD) offices webpage for more location information. Serves Black Creek and Comox Valley (Comox, Courtenay, Cumberland, Fanny Bay, Royston, and Union Bay) as well as Denman Island and Hornby Island. Hours are 9 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. In-person and virtual services are available. Hours are subject to change. This centre is not open for drop-ins, please call to book an appointment.
