Emergency Transition House Program

Provides safe, temporary emergency space for up to 18 women (cisgender and transgender) as well as Two-Spirit, and non-binary individuals of all ages, with or without children, who are escaping violence or at risk of violence. Accepts male children age 19 and under; children of all ages can access if they are still considered a dependent due to a disability. Accepts refugee women and women from out of province. Length of stay is typically 30 days but can be extended based on extenuating circumstances. Also provides support services, stopping the violence counselling, community service referrals, and children's programs, and assistance with transportation to appointments. Offers resource information to enable women to explore their options and define their goals as well as assist with the development of safety plans. Services are available at no cost. Personal identification (ID) is required; will support women to obtain ID. Wheelchair accessible. May be able to accommodate pets based on unit availability, but will arrange for fostering at the local SPCA where possible. Funded by BC Housing.
