Gateway Men's Pre-Recovery Program

Provided by: Union Gospel Mission (UGM)

Service Description

A temporary stabilization program available to men (cisgender and transgender) seeking recovery, addictions treatment, or second stage support. The program is designed to support people accessing addictions recovery programs; participants must have a confirmed transition plan and the maximum estimated waitlist time for their recovery program must be two weeks or less; exceptions can be made at the discretion of Gateway point staff or Supervisor of Outreach. The program is open to individuals looking for recovery whether through a UGM program or other program. Potential candidates must be assessed and approved by the alcohol and drug counsellors as a fit for the UGM Program. Does not accept men requiring medical detox or on substitution therapy other than Sublocade. Men cannot be at risk of severe withdrawal (seizures, severe sickness/nausea/etc.), though minor withdrawal symptoms are acceptable. Individuals with a history of seizures when withdrawing or who have been using a large amount of opiates/opioids must enter and complete detox prior to entering Gateway. They should be coherent and able to focus and understand rules, procedures, and guidelines. Cannot accommodate individuals with major mobility issues that will inhibit their ability to live independently in the Gateway dorm. People in the program are required to stay in the building unless accompanied by staff to appointments. Self-referrals are accepted; apply directly to outreach staff.
