Health Protection
Regulates and monitors public facilities and those aspects of the environment that have a direct impact on public health. Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) ensure that public health standards are met in restaurants and food service locations, public food handling and distribution, public swimming pools and hot tubs, and personal service establishments such as salons, spas, and tattoo parlours. Also takes steps to prevent injury and minimize the spread of communicable disease, and deals with drinking water safety. Prevents the display, promotion, and sale of tobacco and vapour products to minors, and protects the public and employees from the harmful effects of second-hand smoke through enforcement of provincial legislation. Licensing Officers ensure that residential and community care facilities comply with regulations. Serves Interior Health region; office locations in 100 Mile House, Cranbrook, Invermere, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nelson, Penticton, Salmon Arm, Vernon, and Williams Lake.
