Intimate Images Protection Service (IIPS)

Service Description

Provides coordinated support to people in BC who have had their intimate images shared or threatened to be shared without their consent. Accepts calls from victims and others who are calling on their behalf. Services provided to victims and survivors include emotional support, stabilization, and safety planning; information about options for reporting to police and support doing so; acting as a centralized liaison/point of contact with the Civil Resolution Tribunal (CRT); assistance in making an application to the CRT and support throughout the CRT processes; and assistance with communicating protection orders issued by the CRT. Intimate image protection order claims can be made against individuals or websites such as social media platforms. Minors ages 14 and older can bring claims to CRT on their own or with the help of a trusted adult, minors ages 12 and 13 must make claims with the help of a trusted adult. The CRT can award damages of up to $5000. Incidents must have occurred after March 6th 2023 and typically within two years to be eligible for a claim, but IIPS will provide information to anyone calling.
