Joy's Place Women's Transition House

Provides safe, secure, temporary shelter and support for women (inclusive of cisgender and transgender women), with or without children, who are fleeing violent relationships or are at-risk of abuse, threats, or violence. Accepts male children ages 14 and under; older males may be accepted case by case. Accepts refugees and refugee claimants, as well as women from out of the province. Accepts women with mental health diagnoses who are able to care for themselves and function well within a communal setting. Staffed 24 hours. Length of stay is 30 days. High-barrier house; clients must have detoxed 90 days prior and function well within a communal setting; no substance use during stay. Accepts women on substitution therapy. Gives women a safe and supportive living environment with access to daily living requirements such as toiletries and nutritious meals. Also provides emotional support, outreach, and a Resiliency Program where community volunteers provide workshops, training, or recreation. Also provides advocacy support in accessing financial assistance, legal aid, and affordable housing. Offers resource information to enable women to explore their options and define their goals as well as assist with the development of safety plans. Personal identification (ID) is not required. Cannot accommodate pets. House is located in the Coquitlam community; available on a first-come, first-served basis. Wheelchair accessible. Funded by BC Housing.
